Sarcoxie Twp: John Haskins was the first settler on the prairie thatafterwards bore his name, coming in 1833.
John Haskins' Will was dated February 8, 1886 and probated March 25, 1886
In the name of God, I John Haskins of the County of Bates and State ofMissouri being of sound mind and understanding make this my last will inmanner and form as follows: I bequeath all of my Money, Notes, accountsHousehold furniture to my wife Elizabeth haskins for her absolute use andbenefit to to (sic) the nature & quality thereof, respectively subjectonly to the payment of my Jest debts, funeral expenses, Testamentary &the charges of proving and Registering this my last will. And I appointmy said wife Elizabeth Haskins Executor of this my Will, and I herebyrevoke all other wills. In witness whereof, I herewith set my hand &Seal, this the 8th day of February, 1886

Obit for John Haskins, Bates Co. Record, Feb 20, 1886.
John Haskins died at his residence in Pleasant Gap, Township, at theadvanced age of 74. Mr Haskins was born in the State of Tennesee; heemigrated to Missouri 47 years ago with his wife who is still living; hehas been a resident of Bates county, 37 years and was well known to allthe old Settlers. In Politics he was a Democrat. During the late war Mr.Haskins took the side of the union. His children, grand-children and hisGreat-grand-children, so far as known amount to the surprising number oftwo hundred and twenty-six. Grandpa Haskins was an honest man in thefullest sense of the word. He was a man possessing more than ordinaryintelligence and of strong convictions; he was a consistent member of theCumberland Presbyterian church for 30 years and the last four years helived he did little else but read the Bible and talk to his neighbors onreligion. He knew the Bible so well that he could repeat almost everychapter and verse in the new Testament. He leaves behind him many lovingfriends and neighbors.
There is a John Haskins on the Boone Co. Mo. 1825 Tax List.
Bates County, Missouri, Warranty Deeds, Book 72. Page 331:
John and Elizabeth Haskins deeded their property to Rachael and J. M.Bryant: "We convey the above described property to the Parties abovenamed for taking cae of us hereafter and shall take care of us for aslong as we shall live." dated November 13, 1886.
