Family history is an interesting subject that we all think about from time to time.  I am lucky enough to have ancestors and relatives who took the time to jot down their memories and save information so that I can put it together to pass on to you.  It would be difficult for me to list everyone who has contributed to what I am doing here.  Suffice it to say that a number of people have taken the time to write down the information they have gathered or obtained.  I have been lucky enough to obtain this information.  Since it was just accumulating in boxes, I thought it appropriate to take the time to put it in a machine readable form so that others down the road may enjoy it as I have.

In this document, I include the work of other people, people who have taken the time to collate and organize the information that they have.  In the spirit in which they produced their work, I copy it here. I hope that I properly give full credit for all the effort that has taken place in producing this information.  I think that anyone working on family history realizes that they do not really "create" the information, they simply find and collate it.  Many good family histories are the result of this collaborative spirit.

My full credit goes to Mrs. Joan Dailey Spragins, Mrs. Sally Jennings Hawkins, and Mrs. Maurine Jennings Tuttle for most of the information that I have.  They are a cousin, sister, and aunt with whom I have consulted and received much information from.  Lately, I have received some crucial information from Le Anne Boynton and Margaret Wyatt Speckels.  Before them, Henry Walter Dailey (father of Joan Spragins) and Jesse L. Jennings (my grandfather) exchanged information.  And before them I find record of my great-grandfather exchanging information with his brother concerning family history.  So I firmly believe that this information should be passed on to those who follow, as I know they will be as interested in the family background as my great-grandfather was.

What I have added to all the previous information are excerpts from maps showing some of the important areas involved and related much of the narrative to the family tree.  I have attempted to put all this information together in a way that it is more informative and makes interesting reading.  I have also included a family tree in machine readable form so that you can see how it is all tied together.

There are several families involved that I have a fair amount of data on. The Jennings, Alsup, Humphries, Thompson, Faris, and Williamson families will be discussed in some detail as I have the detail.  I hope that I can put the information together in a way that can be understood. This work is ongoing.

I have included the data file jennings.ged for use with genealogy software. The narrative will be broken down so that one family group is discussed at a time.
